- Canada can become a true soccer nation. we are light years ahead of where we were 10 yrs ago.
-david beckham is still relevant... I got nothing
-hip hop had went the way of the bling, the gangsta, back to the bling, then grew up....
- reality tv : like that relative that comes, stays for a few days..... Which turns into weeks., months, .... Yeah get the idea?

where did it go?
Holy shit, So I am on billboards website looking at what's good in the music world, and saw a link to some of their top music/albums.artist of the decade. It hit me, 2009-2010 yup, this is the end/start of a new decade. Looking through some of the songs and artists and reminising on the last 10 years, and how certain songs and such reminded me of many of the good times and the bad times.
This is essentially the first decade in which I could take stock of everything in my life, look back and look ahead to the next 10 years.
When the last decade started, life was good, I was finishing up highschool, was in a great relationship, and had a decent retail part time job at the mall....
now that this decade is ending, I am working on my CGA/University degree, working for Toronto FC/Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and will be getting married to a great girl.
I thought life was good then, shit its good now.
I entered this decade as a kid with goals in mind, and seemingly on top of the world, and i was capable of anything, that was 2000.
2009 going into 2010, things may not have gone perfectly planned, but I think I am in a good place at the moment, and armed with experience, and many, many life lessons, I know where I want to go, and will continue to persue it.
As great as the last 10 years may have been or not had been at times, the next 10 years is just as exciting, and hopefully I'll be looking back, taking stock in 2019 on what things the last 10 years had brought.

Good Bye Old Friend.

Tomorrow "Fiona" is gone.
In January 2005, I had decided to purchase my first car. Being a long time Honda fan, I bought a 2005 Silver Honda Civic Si-G coupe.
I still remember the day I picked her up. I had been carless for a few days ( I was driving my parents windstar, but they had traded it in for a 2004 Honda Odyssey). Since this was the new family car I was out of a Vehicle. I was waiting for the new civic to be delivered to the dealership, in the meantime I was taking public transportation to work and school. As I was leaving work one day, I get a call from the dealership that the car was ready to be picked up. So i call my buddy Tuna to pick me up from square one to go get the car ( He was going to pick me up to go to nightschool... that didnt happen)
I remember sitting inside the car for the first time. The new car smell, the look of the LED lit instrument panel, and of course the anticipation of finally driving a car that I could call my own. I always told myself I would name my car once I purchased one. So this civic needed a name. I settled on Fiona, nevermind shrek, but i thought it was a name I felt suited the car well.
Fast forward to Sept 2009 and 179,000 kms later, shes will no longer be mine tomorrow.
I speak so highly of this car, and it may seem weird, but this civic had a very strong emotional attachment.
I love to drive, and I drove this car, roadtrips through the states, daily driving, it was a pleasure to drive in. Summer days and nights with the sunroof and windows open, Listening to whatever songs were hot @ the time, it was a great feeling.
A lot of the people I call friends today, I've met because of the Civic, My Fiancee vicki, our interests in Civics led us to meet and I will always be thankful for that.
I was always hoping Fiona would be @ the wedding, Infact I was planning on taking her to the church, in an ideal world, both Vicki's car and My car would be @ the wedding, its always the way I had pictured it in my mind.
Sadly it won't work out like that, sometimes reality forces you to make changes in order to better your situation and it is a fact of life.
The car will be gone, but the memories are forever.
Fiona will always be my first car, and though I won't be driving her anymore, I look at my life, my girl, my friends and its all here because of the car.
the trips, the meets, the shows, the good times ... well I'll never forget them.
Heres to you Fiona, its time for you to make a new set of memories for someone else.

wedding advice
One of the best things about Internet message boards is the free advice you can get w/o asking.
It seems that a few guys are getting married on one particular board I frequent and this little piece of advice pretty much sums up my mindset leading up to my wedding next year.

agree with the guys dude. My wedding day...I slept in...strolled around all morning and eventually put on a tux and showed up.
She spent the whole morning getting ready, driving here, driving there and freaking out with her bridesmaids.
Nobody is going to be looking at you. Nobody is going to care about you. They all will be paying attention to her. What you should be concentrating on is putting a smile on her face....both during the day...and then of course, at night.
If you look at it as "life altering" you will continue to be nervous. If you look forward to it as a great exciting change, your nerves will go away.
I had been looking forward to it and I enjoyed every minute of it. Unless you have other "issues" you are working through...just enjoy the ride. The day goes by really fast and then all of a sudden you have a partner where you are supporting each other and are there for each other every day. To me...that sounds like a good thing.
no big deal right?

who wants to be a milli a mill a millionaire.....
i received this in an email this morning, and i think that if you have a few minutes to spare it is worth a look.
Power of Money
By Adam Khoo
Singapore 's youngest millionaire at 26 yrs.
Some of you may already know that I travel around the region pretty frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices in Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand and Suzhou ( China ).
I am in the airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people who have attended my seminars or have read my books.
Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather shocked. He asked, 'How come a millionaire like you is traveling economy?' My reply was, 'That's why I am a millionaire. ' He still looked pretty confused.
This again confirms that greatest lie ever told about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires' ). Many people have been brainwashed to think that millionaires have to wear Gucci, Hugo Boss, Rolex, and sit on first class in air travel. This is why so many people never become rich because the moment that earn more money, they think that it is only natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one.
The truth is that most self-made millionaires are frugal and only spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster.
Over the last 7 years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids, etc. to support). Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of their income (if they are lucky).
I refuse to buy a first class ticket or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste of money. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2-year old daughter to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice.
When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur' s Orgn)a few years back (YEO is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and make over $1m a year in their own business) I discovered that those who were self-made thought like me.
Many of them with net worth well over $5m,travelled economy class and some even drove Toyota 's and Nissans, not Audis, Mercs, BMWs.
I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, when you did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really value money. This is precisely the reason why a family's wealth (no matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation.
Thank God my rich dad foresaw this terrible possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business.
Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while, it does not last.
Material happiness never lasts, it just give you a quick fix. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life..
Instead, what makes me happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see my companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries.
What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone's life.
What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this blog is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me.
I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come from doing your life's work (be it teaching, building homes, designing, trading, winning tournaments etc.) and the money that comes is only a by-product. If you hate what you are doing and rely on the money you earn to make you happy by buying stuff, then I think that you are living a life of meaninglessness.

Those summer nights
Its July.
Summer, the best time of year. Of all the things to do in the summer, one of my favourite things to do is go for a cruise in my car.
For me, its best @ night, with less people on the roadways. Pop in a good cd and drive. Windows down, music filling the summer air. The stars above. Its amazing how relaxing it is.
Mon-fri we all put up with all sorts of garbage in our busy lives and everyone needs that time to just unwind, escape the world and just refocus relax and just be.
I've put a lot of milage on my poor civic, she's been reliable as hell, and I'll be sad to see her go.
Those that know me know that the civic has taken on various forms of moidification, rims, kits and other stuff.... But the thing I'll remember most will be those summer nights cruising down a quiet road just letting my worries float off into the summer night.
